CHICAGO (STMW) — A wrong-way driver has been charged in a crash that injured six people on I-94 in south suburban South Holland early Saturday.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. when a car was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-94 near 159th Street, according to Illinois State Police. Three other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

The 22-year-old wrong-way driver was charged with aggravated DUI Sunday, police said.

Six people were transported to hospitals after the crash, although none of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, state police said. The wrong-way driver was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Indiana.

The driver of a second vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, was also taken to St. Margaret, according to state police. A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Another passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, although state police said his injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Two other drivers, a 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, were also taken to St. Margaret, state police said.

Lanes in both directions were closed as crews worked to clear the scene, but were reopened at 7:15 a.m., according to state police.
